Flooded Basement Clean Up

Helpful Tips on Dealing with the Need for Flooded Basement Clean up

Here at San Diego Flood Restoration, we understand that a flooded basement clean up project never happens at an opportune time, and we are always here to help in an emergency situation. We are available around the clock, on weekends and holidays because water damage never takes a day off. Flooded basement clean up efforts can be more challenging than typical water damage projects, and often require immediate and special care from local professionals. If you have a flooded basement in San Diego, please call us immediately so we can respond quickly. This can save you time, money, and and frustration when dealing with flooded basement clean up or raw sewage water damage.

A flooded basement usually happens quickly and without notice, but there are several things you can do to ensure your safety when this type of sudden event occurs. While your initial emotional response may be to panic, it is important to remain calm and remember that there are local water damage professionals who are standing by to help you. Reminding yourself that you are not alone is a good first step.

  • If possible, shut off power to your basement. Cords, outlets, and electrical wires pose a major safety hazard during flooded basement clean up. Turning off the electricity of the affected area is a positive safety precaution.

  • Be aware of the potential dangers of contaminated black water. Flooded basements can be filled with harmful pollutants and microbes that can cause damage to your health. It is a good idea to stay away from the area until help arrives due to the potential risks.

  • If possible and applicable, shut off the flow of natural gas to your flooded basement. During a flood, drowned pilot lights can be a hazard due to the resulting buildup of explosive natural gas.

  • If the flooded basement clean up project is the result of regional weather or natural disaster, be aware of possible structural damage. This doesn’t happen often in San Diego, but it is something to remember if your basement is flooded as the result of a severe storm.

  • Call your local water damage professionals instead of your insurance company directly. Here at San Diego Flood Restoration, we work with most well-known insurance companies so you will be covered for the work, but will also often have a more fair assessment of the damage and cost. We can provide you with an unbiased opinion, and you are more likely to be treated equitably.
