Carpet Padding and Carpet Damage Restoration

Replacing Carpeting and Carpet Padding due to Water Damage

When a flood damage event occurs, carpeting and carpet padding is often at great risk of contamination and may need to be replaced. However, the San Diego Flood Restoration team is experienced in carpet cleaning and offers these services to anyone in need. Carpet damage can be minor or extensive as a result of water intrusion, and we know exactly how to tell when your carpeting or carpet padding needs to be replaced.

When analyzing the extent of the carpet damage due to water intrusion, we look at several aspects of the material, including:

  • Construction (Tufted, Woven, Bonded, Needle Punched)

  • Style (Loop, Cut, or Cut and Loop)

  • Quality (Fiber Content, Yarn Twist, Pile Height, Face Weight)

  • Construction of the Backing System (Plastic, Jute, Foam, Rubber)

If the carpet damage is deep and the carpeting is likely to be removed, we will help find a suitable carpet sample of similar like, kind, and quality. This can be determined by either the customer or the insurance company, but we will always help in any way we can. It should be noted that any carpet damage as a result of category 3 black water (sewage water) will result in carpet replacement.

Carpet Padding and Raw Sewage A raw sewage clean up project will cause most types of padding to be immediately replaced.

When Carpet Padding (Cushion or Underlay) Must be Replaced

There are times when the carpet padding or cushion must be replaced as a result of water damage. These may be unfortunate circumstances, but it is our practice to completely restore your home to its pre-loss state. A few situations where carpet padding should be replaced:

  • The padding has a non-porous skin

  • The padding materials are mostly organic

  • Padding has been saturated for 72 hours or more

The extent of the carpet damage, the padding material, and the time spent saturated are all factors that will influence this decision. This is one reason we suggest calling us here at San Diego Flood Restoration immediately. If the carpet damage is inspected quickly, we can begin the drying efforts and potentially save your carpeting or the padding underneath.

Never wait on a water damage event. We can always help the most if we are contacted immediately.
