Avoiding Water Damage while on Vacation

Before you leave San Diego for your summer vacation, you can do a few simple things around your home to prevent water damage while you’re away. An emergency flood damage event due to a burst pipe will cause financial loss if it isn’t dealt with as quickly as possible. Water damage clean up projects are most successful if your restoration company is informed immediately, and this is difficult if such an event occurs when you are away from home. Enjoying your vacation without stress or worry is easier if you know your house is safe and secure. A few quick and easy steps can be taken to ensure that a water damage clean up project isn’t needed when you return from your getaway.

Minimizing Water Damage Clean up Before Holiday For a stress-free summer vacation, take the time to reduce the chances of a water damage event while you’re away.

Have a Family Friend Check Your Home while You’re Away

It is important to have a friend or family member visit your home regularly when you are on vacation. This is easy to remember if you have pets or plants that must be taken care of, but making sure a water damage event doesn’t occur is also crucial. If your home is in need of water damage clean up, your friend will be able to recognize the need and call your local flood damage restoration company quickly.

Check Your Piping for Water Damage

Before you leave, take the time to inspect the piping underneath your sinks, your water heater, and all other possible sources of water intrusion. A burst pipe is the number one cause of water damage clean up projects in San Diego, and making sure that there are no leaks, cracks or rust will reduce the likelihood of this common occurrence.

Shut off the Water Connections to Common Household Appliances

By disconnecting the hoses to your washing machine, refrigerator, and dishwasher, you will reduce the likelihood of a water damage event. Eliminating these potential hazards will not take long and goes a long way towards preventing flood damage while these appliances are not in use. If any of these hoses appear damaged, it is also a good idea to replace them before you leave on your trip.

Be safe, and have a wonderful Summer vacation.
